Bharti Airtel gains over 2% on RBI nod to raise FII

Shares of country’s leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel rose over 2 per cent in early trade on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) after Reserve Bank of India on Thursday approved company’s proposal to increase foreign investment limit to 74 per cent. “Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs)/Registered Foreign Portfolios Investors (RFPIs) can now invest upto 74 per cent of the paid up capital of Bharti Airtel Limited under the portfolio investment scheme,” RBI said in a press release. Cheering the news, shares of company rose as much as 2.36 per cent to trade at Rs 345.20 a piece on the BSE. In a similar fashion, shares of the company rose 0.88 per cent to Rs 339.90 a piece on National Stock Exchange. Meanwhile, the broader benchmark Sensex was quoting at 25,875.42, up 51.67 points or 0.20 per cent at 10.45 hours.
