State-controlled carrier Air India on Tuesday joined the Star Alliance group of carriers, a move that could help boost revenues at the loss-making state-run airline, a Reuter report said. Members of Star Alliance met Air India officials in London on Monday and cleared road for induction of the carrier, Air India spokesman Praveen Bhatnagar told Reuters. Star Alliance is one the largest global airline alliances which includes Lufthansa, Swiss, United, Singapore Airlines as it members. Bhatnagar told media that the Air India will formally complete the process by mid-July. The development is likely to boost Air India’s revenue as membership allows carrier to share routes with the other airlines to more than 1,200 destinations.
