State Bank of India gains nearly 2% on merger news

Shares of State Bank of India rose nearly 2 per cent in early trade on Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) on reports that State Bank of India proposes to merge its five remaining subsidiaries with itself. The shares of bank rose as much as 1.59 per cent to trade at Rs 2707 a piece on the BSE. However, shares of the bank rose 1.72 per cent to Rs 2711.75 a piece on National Stock Exchange. Meanwhile, the broader benchmark Sensex was quoting at 25,656.22, up 72.53 points or 0.28 per cent at 10.42 hours.
