IT giant Infosys Ltd on Thursday said that it has appointed Vishal Sikka, a former SAP board member, as CEO and Managing Director, replacing S. D. Shibulal with effect from August 1, 2014. “Vishal Sikka was, until recently, a member of the Executive Board of SAP AG, leading all products and driving innovation globally. He has worked closely with leaders of global companies in building breakthrough business solutions,” the company said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange. Commenting on his appointment, Sikka said, "I am honored to lead Infosys, an iconic company built by pioneers in the technology industry. I look forward to working with and learning from talented Infoscions around the world…I am grateful to the Infosys Nominations and Governance Committee, Mr. Kamath, Mr. Murthy and the Board for this opportunity." Sikka studied computer engineering at MS University Baroda and holds a Phd in Computer Science from Stanford University. Sikka was previously an executive board member of German tech giant SAP, and was responsible for all products -- from traditional and cloud-based applications to technology and platform products including HANA, analytics, mobile and middleware. Moreover, Co-founder N R Narayana Murthy will step down as Executive Chairman from June 14. He was brought back from retirement in June last year to head the firm and put it back on a high-growth trajectory at a time when peers like TCS and HCL Tech were out-performing Infosys. Moreover, S Gopalakrishnan will also voluntarily step down as Executive Vice Chairman with effect from June 14, 2014, Infosys said in a statement.
